Program of Practical Nursing is an 11-month course of study and clinical experience designed to help the student acquire the attitudes, skills, and knowledge essential to the role of a competent practical nurse. It is a full-day program, meeting Monday through Thursday.

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates receive a certificate of graduation and are qualified to apply to sit for national licensure examination (NCLEX-PN). Currently our practical nursing program articulates with East Central College Associate Degree Registered Nurse Program (LPN-RN) and Southwest Baptist University (LPN to BSN) to continue education towards a Registered Nurse degree.

April 23 application deadline for classes beginning in August.

Program Philosophy

We believe the licensed practical nurse is an integral and essential part of the overall plan of nursing care in our community. We believe that education is a continuing process and that career and technical education for practical nurses, with its goal of preparation for field of work, offers opportunities for socio-economic progress for that individual and society.

Pre-Requisite Coursework

You must complete Intro to Anatomy & Physiology (4 credit lecture and lab) or both Anatomy & Physiology I and  Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credit lecture and lab) prior to the program start date. The course must be passed with a B, or above, in both theory and lab as proof by official transcript.

If you have further questions to clarify this policy, please direct them to the program director. Summer enrollment prior to the beginning of the program- must have evidence by proof of enrollment from college for the course. Course must be passed with a B, or above, in both theory and lab as proof by official transcript.

Advanced Credit

While these courses are not pre-requisites, the program will accept advanced credit for the following courses:

• Human Development /Life Span Development (3 college credit hours)
• Human Nutrition (3 college credit hours)

Human Development and Human Nutrition are also offered during the program in the 1st term through East Central College and Drury University as part of the practical nursing curriculum.

Program Approval

Our program is fully approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
